German term or phrase: Tafel
This is describing an event aimed at social inclusion: a dinner club where immigrants and locals come together to cook and eat. I'm struggling here with the meaning of Tafel in this sentence:

Der DinnerClub ist KEINE TAFEL, da hier nur das Restaurant und die Küche zur Verfügung gestellt werden; Köche und Rezepte und Gäste wechseln ständig.

Any help gratefully received.

Here is a reference to the Essene Tafel.
So, even though the next clause doesn't really seem to help the meaning, "da hier nur das Restaurant und die Küche zur Verfügung gestellt werden" after the semi-colon it makes itself clearer: Köche und Rezepte und Gäste wechseln ständig.
The point being, I think, that we usually think of immigrants and those in need coming to receive something ie food at a food bank. The DinnerClub is much more participatory, and therefore, probably, empowering.

agree  Gordon Matthews: The "Tafel" in Essen was in the news in the spring. They give out bread, milk, etc. to needy people as a food bank does.

My guess is that here 'Tafel' is used in the sense of soup kitchen/food bank. The main aim of the DinnerClub is not feeding the hungry, but bringing people together.
