German term or phrase: geschliffen (in Sinne von einem Messmittel)

Dieser Geschäftsprozess tritt in folgenden Fällen ein: wenn ein Messmittel neu geschliffen werden muss.

Could 'geschliffen' here mean 'calibrated'? The translation of Messmittel that I have to use (as per the client's recommendation) is 'test equipment', which is why I think 'calibrated' might work here.

Explanation:
calibrated sounds good, but, it is well-known and would have been used, instead.... context problem!
Besides polished, smoothed could also do - terminology for specialized measuring equipment?!

As requested, mehr Kontext: I've double-checked the definition provided in the client's glossary re Messmittel (synonym also provided as Prüf- und Messmittel = test equipment). The definition for Messmittel reads as follows: The test equipment is measurement equipment used during quality inspections. Test equipment includes equipment, instruments, papers, and materials required for quality inspection. Test equipment can be fixed pieces of equipment at a work center, or moveable instruments and objects. This ensures the usability of test equipment through cyclical or user-dependent checks, calibration and maintenance. Test equipment must be classified based on accuracy and use each time calibration or maintenance is performed.
