German term or phrase: zugewinnausgleich (no dictionary defs. please)
Part of a law firm brochure, under family law.
I know that most dictionaries give 'equalisation of surplus' etc.

What it means is that all the assets the couple had before marriage are subtracted from all the assets a couple have acquired since marriage, and the resulting assets are then divided up.

Could I say
'division of community property'?

Explanation:
'Community property' is a term of US law, and various states have community property laws.

The equivalent term for UK and Commonwealth law seems to be 'matrimonial property'.
