German term or phrase: Kommanditgesellschaft auf aktien
Can anyone help me translating this term into English?

Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien

Thanks!
Arlie Thompson
English translation:partnership limited by shares
Explanation:

Some dix suggest "limited partnership with capital shares/share capital" (eg TIS Consilium).
But "partnership (or association) limited by shares" seems to be the standard term.

Partnership limited by shares

Explanation:
Dietl: Dictionary of Legal, Commercial and Political Terms states:
"The legal form of the KGaA combines limited partnership and company limited by shares. The KGaA has at least one general partner whose liability is unlimited, and limited shareholders who have an interest in the stated capital divided into shares and who are not personally liable for the obligations of the company".

Hope this fits in with your document.

Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien

Explanation:
This type of legal entity only exists under Germanic law. Any attempt to translate it would be misleading, and could make the translator legally liable. Do not translate. Treat it as you would treat a proper name!

KGaA = partnership limited by shares

Explanation:
You may want to leave the name "Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien" as is and include a note with an explanation. This is the explanation that Dietl-Lorenz offers:
"The legal form of the KGaA combines limited partnership and company limited by shares. The KGaA has at least one general partner whose liability is unlimited, and limited shareholders who have an interest in the stated capital divided into shares and who are not personally liable for the obligations of the company."

Obviously there is no one-to-one correspondence between legal forms of enterprises from different countries but ALL translations are approximate and conventional. Translator is not liable for existing conventions.

Hope it can help you.
