My thanks go to all the fine suggestions, but first I'd like to say that I didn't see a thing unnatural about Elinor's translation. There are many ways to skin this cat. I finally ended up with: Mr. X is entitled to terminate the contract with one month's notice given prior to the end of the quarter.

Mr. X shall be entitled

Explanation:
to terminate the contract at the end of each quarter with a notice period of one month.

[The first answer was alright except for a slight detail - the contract can be terminated AT the end of the quarter, and not BEFORE the end of the quarter.]

Explanation:
Elinor's answer was right in part: she left out the part about "Quartalsende", and her phrasing is not proper legal style.
