English translation: underlying commodity management transaction

Law/Patents
German term or phrase: warenwirtschaftliche Grundgeschäft
Extract from a contract:

Die gilt auch nach Beendigung des warenwirtschaftlichen Grundgeschäfts.
Michael Dollman
English translation:underlying commodity management transaction
Explanation:
Romain shows "underlying transaction" for "Grundgeschäft."
In my experience, "Warenwirtschaft" refers to commodity management. I had problems accessing the site, but http:/ / www.shs-solutions.com/ uses commodities management and "Warenwirtschaft" synonymously, so at least there's one reference word-wise.

I hope this fits your context.

7 hrs
basic goods transactions business

Explanation:
Towns 313 may well be right with the commodities idea. The word "…waren…" has so many possible meanings, however, that your text may be referring to the management of inventory or goods in general or also the trading in goods in general not just commodities.

Warenwirtschaftsystem = Inventory control system or merchandise planning and control system – Grundgeschäft = underlying business or bread and butter lines - Hamblock/Wessels

Grundgeschäft = underlying transaction – Eichborn and Romain and Zahn

Warengeschäft = merchandise transaction - Zahn

Most search engine hits for "Warenwirtschaft…" were concerned with inventory.

There is a translation for commodities that makes possible the differentiation between commodities and other goods transactions. This translation is "vertretbare Waren" or vertretbare Sachen" which means literally "fungible goods" or "fungibles" which is another way to say "commodities".

Very often Germans oversimplify "commodities" by using "Rohstoffe" as in this example:

http://www.schweizerbart.de/pubs/books/rohstof-185096015-des... -

My point is that if your text meant "commodities", why didn't they say "commodities", the word is quite well known here now (more than 1,000 Google hits for "commodities" in German only search). Or why didn't they say the more usual German word "Rohstoffe". Without having more context, I would be afraid to use "commodities" because it might be too narrow. Without more info, I would play it safe by writing "basic goods transactions business".

20 hrs
merchandising core business

Explanation:
Good point, Dan. Without more context, it is hard to see why the Grundgesch"aft is EXPECTED to end, though they migt have left the eventuell out. Also looking after your inventory is not a basic business for most firms. So there's a chance, knowing only what we do, that it's a merchandising core business, that might reasonably be expected to give out at some time if the company is doing something else, too, that is more profitable.
