German to English translations [Non-PRO]
Law/Patents
German term or phrase: Leitklasse
In a German Patent and Trademark trademark application, under "Verzeichnis der Waren/Dienstleistungen" the term Leitklasse appears.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Harold

English translation:leading class
Explanation:
In German trademark/service mark applications the applicant does not only have to specify the "International Classes" of the goods or services covered by the trademark but he also has to state a "Leitklasse". This is the International Class of goods or services for the major goods or services under his trademark/service mark. See the webpage of the German Patent and Trademark Office, on which the term "Leitklasse" is explained.

In US trademark law, the goods or services are classified in the International Classes only - without the specification of a "major" class. I always translate "Leitklasse" as "leading class".
