German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Management / Formal approval of the directors' actions
German term or phrase: Entlastung für das Geschäftsjahr 2009/2010
Confused by the date here, as I thought the "Entlastung" referred to the year under review in the accounts. The sentences are: "Die Amtszeiten der Herren .... dauern bis zur Hauptversammlung, die über ihre Entlastung für das Geschäftsjahr 2007/2008 entscheidet." and later "Die Amtsdauer der sechs Arbeitnehmervertreter, der Herren XXX sowie meine Amtszeit als Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender enden mit der Hauptversammlung der Gesellschaft, die über die Entlastung für das Geschäftsjahr 2009/ 2010 entscheidet."

Is this simply a case of approving their previous actions while re-appointing them for a further period of office?

discharge

Explanation:
Ich denke die Entlastung bezieht sich auf die Tätigkeit des Aufsichtsrates und is damit "discharge of the supervisory board for the accounting/fiscal year 2009/2010"

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for your contribution. In fact, the problem was not the Entlastung - I know this is about giving formal approval of directors' actions (or call it discharge or release). It was the date that had me confused. In the end this was because I assumed the word Hauptversammlungin the sentence referred to the next AGM in 2007,whereas it refers to the AGM in 2009 that will approve their actions for 2007/2008 at the end of their term of office.

release

Explanation:
discharge sounds a bit harsh. Perhaps 'dismissal'.

But best is perhaps "...which decides on a continuing retention in their positions for the fiscal year 2006." Certainly the most polite way of saying.
