German term or phrase: Szenetreff
Szenetreff

This term is used in a German advertising / marketing / merchandising context, which concerns the handing out of "Edgarkarten" (see my previous KudoZ question) to passersby. The person receiving the card can turn it in or mail it in to take part in a contest or exchange the card for a "Goodie"(see my other previous KudoZ question). I understand more or less what a "Szenetreff" must be but the German context says the "Edgarkarten" will be handed out in front of "In-Locations" and "Szenetreffs". What is the difference between an "In-Location" and a "Szenetreff" and what is a good English term for "Szenetreff" to differentiate is from "In location". The term must be suitable for daytime or nighttime use.

Everyone seems to like "hot spot" and uel's answer was the first. The term sounds old enough to be something I would write. I'm surprised it is still so popular.

Thanks everybody,

Dan

Hot Spot/the ONE/THE place to be

Explanation:
this is an interesting one ...

"Szenetreff" usually describes a place visited by members of the "alternative scene", this may be political or connected to the "arts scene". Usually a "Szenetreff" is a low budget place if compared to

"In-Treff" where you would meet well established artists, actors/actresses and "would like to be's". Usually an "In-Treff" is a more expensive, "show-off" type of place.

However, your job seems to involve an "In-Treff" that also seems to be a "Szenetreff" and in this case I (personally) would use "Hot Spot", "THE place to visit while in Munich (for example) or "SCHNEIDERS (for example) THE place to be."

Enjoy!!!
