German to English translations [PRO]
Marketing - Marketing / Market Research
German term or phrase: informiert
Not so much the term as the word order: can anyone enlighten me re whether the cutsomer is being informeed about the products/services etc in this sentence, or about the fact that their details are being used?
Ja, ich bin damit einverstanden, dass die XXX meine Daten für die Marktforschung, Beratung und Information über Produkte, Services, Gewinnspiele sowie Software-Aktualisierungen per E-Mail, Post, Telefon, SMS oder MMS verwendet und mich hierüber informiert.

neutral  Armorel Young: that fails grammatically, because there is no one thing in the sentence to which "it" can refer

agree  Jo Bennett: It is "die Verwendung der Daten"
30 mins
  -> thank you !

agree  seehand: sehe ich auch so
6 hrs
  -> thank you !

disagree  Lancashireman: With Armorel. The use of the English impersonal pronoun ‘it’ solves nothing and counts as a classic ‘cop-out’. Definitely one for the German native speakers and fascinating to see the tussle between the Titans below.

Notes to answerer
Asker: So this would do it? Sorry - just really struggling with this for some reason: Yes, I agree that XXX may use my details to send me information by post, SMS or MMS about market research, guidance and information relating to products, services, competitions and software updates.

disagree  Steffen Walter: No, users are informed/notified of the fact that their data/details is/are used (this is about privacy first and foremost). "hierüber" = "über die Verwendung meiner Daten"
23 mins
  -> No company in the world informs you about each individual use of your data for marketing activities - wie kommst du denn darauf?? You are ALWAYS informed in a single note that your data will be used and processed and you have to agree or disagree once...

agree  Bernhard Sulzer: just to counterbalance - see my entry in the discussion. Plus, I think you might be right about only getting asked once before your data are used.
11 hrs
  -> Danke, Bernhard!! - Ja, allein die Annahme, der Kunde würde jedesmal informiert, wenn seine Daten verwendet werden, spricht gegen Steffen's Variante - das kann ich wirklich nicht nachvollziehen...
