German to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Mathematics & Statistics / cluster analysis
German term or phrase:Fehlersprung
I've got a rather inscrutable graph relating to the statistical analysis of a psychological test which assesses sensitivity to stress. It's to do with a cluster analysis of the test items - the graph has "Clusteranzahl" on the x-axis and "Fehler" on the "y-axis" and is titled "Fehlersprung Diagramm der hierarchischen Clusteranalyse". ("Fehler" can't be "wrong answers" in the text, because there aren't any wrong answers, so I'm assuming that the Fehler are Type 1 and Type 2 statistical errors.)
Having been presented with the same term again many months later, again in the context of hierarchical cluster analysis, I have now settled for the translation of "elbow" for Fehlersprung (because it is where the graph angles or changes direction), and "elbow graph" for Fehlersprungdiagramm, even though this gets little support on Google (but then Fehlersprungdiagramm doesn't either).
