German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering / Pumps & Compressors
German term or phrase: spezifische Stutzenarbeit
"Die spezifische Stutzenarbeit ist die innerhalb der Stutzen (Saug- und Druck-stutzen) übertragene Energie je Masseneinheit bzw. Leistung je Massenstromeinheit des Fluids."

Is this just "specific work," or is there a more precise term?

specific work of the connecting pipe

I think Stutzenarbeit here means work of the connecting pipe.

disagree  Bernd Runge: This has nothing to do with pipes but with the energy level increase/decrease [J/kg or N/kg] of a working fluid upstream and downstream of a flow machine i.e. pump/compressor and turbine.

Enthalpy or head

In the book Strömungsmaschinen 2 by Willi Bohl (ISBN 3-8023-1527-8), the term Spezifische Stutzenarbeit is described on page 15 as "das spezifische Energiegefälle swischen Ein- und Austrittsstutzen" (The specific increase/decrease in energy between inlet and outlet) and measured in J/kg or kJ/kg.. When dealing with water-turbines it is often replace with the "Fallhöhe", H, (I guess this is the head) and for gas or steam turbines you use "Wärmegefälle", delta H, (Which is the change in enthalpy)..
