German term or phrase: abgestreifte Zähne
These are instructions to assemble and adjust a rack-and-pinion gear and I'm not quite sure how to express "abgestreifte Zähne" in English:

"Jetzt wird eine ca. 0,2 mm Fühlerlehre von oben nach unten zwischen Winkel und Zähnen soweit durchgeführt, bis sie klemmt. Merken sie sich die Anzahl der dabei abgestreiften Zähne."

Thanks!

Explanation:
From the context I understand that one should use a 0.2 mm feeler to check the gap between the gears

As in:

Also make sure that the E118 conical gear is actually flush to the ball bearing, the trick here is to press the gear until there is a slight binding when the E118 is spun and then insert a thin razor blade or similar thin thickness gauge to just free the movement without leaving a gap. The gap is worse than a slightly binding system, as it will intermitantly allow the E118 gear to bend upwards and actually skip teeth on the E102 or E112 main gears. This will only be discovered by a lot of wear or stripped teeth in a very short period of time.

graze-marked

Explanation:
I think the stripes must come as a result of being touched or “grazed” by the insert. (Think of the way football players shake hands with their fellow teammates as they run onto the field after their name is announced. And I’m also reminded of the playing cards I used to attach to the front wheel of my bicycle. Grazing the spokes lightly as the wheel turned, they produced a sound vaguely reminiscent of motorcycle engine.)
