(mud / sidewall) cake Explanation: http://www.spwla.org/library_info/glossary/reference/glossm/... mud cake Filter cake. The residue deposited on the borehole wall as the mud loses filtrate into porous, permeable formations. The mud cake generally has very low permeability and hence tends to retard further loss of fluid to the formation. http://www.gfredlee.com/stmwt_infil2.html: The bottom of the hole is backfilled with hydrated bentonite chips and medium aquarium sand or other suitable filter pack is used around the casing within the test zone. Finally, hydrated bentonite chips are used to seal the top of the well. The bore hole is pre-saturated to loosen sidewall cake and saturate the formation for a minimum of one day prior to testing. |
