Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals
German term or phrase: initial intravenöse Verabreichung
"Aufgrund der niedrigen Resorption nach oraler Gabe (ca. 2 %) wird mit *initial intravenöser Verabreichung* eine anfänglich stärkere und schnellere Wirkung erreicht."
I see several possible interpretations here, especially what "initial" might mean here - what say you?
Thanks in advance!

initial(ly) intravenous administration / intravenous administration at treatment onset
Explanation:
The drug is administered intravenously at the beginning of the treatment (cycle). The mode of administation may be changed at a later stage. "initial" means "zu Beginn (der Therapie)".

In this case, they basically say that intravenous administration of the drug at treatment onset enhances its effect at the first/initial treatment stage.

Re. your additional question, this is, to some degree, open to interpretation, and would in fact require a question to be sent to the author. That being said, I'd tend to agree with the more general reading (i.e. the first version you mentioned).

Notes to answerer
Asker: are they implying that due to its higher potency i.v. application (vis-a-vis oral) is generally advantageous at start of therapy, or, only if and when a higher potency is desired at the start of treatment?
