This is a very common term. The most common English translation is probably check sum
or
hash total [from "hash" = chopped food, summation of incoherent numbers, just for control purposes], or
gibberish total, control total, batch total
(It's also called Kontrollsumme or Checksumme in German)
That should give you plenty of choices...
