goal-oriented described (documented)

Explanation:
Es scheint mir, dass "orientiert" hier im Sinne "zweckgebunden" gebraucht wurde. Dann koennte ich folgende Uebersetzung vorschlagen:

The cervical vertebrae is only goal-oriented described (documented).

A suggestion only.
Good luck.

imaged only in the normal anatomical position

Explanation:
>>The cervical vertebrae have been image/examined/studied only in the normal antomical position.<< (?)

Just my best guess.
(Additional imaging with the neck in flexion and extension or rotation -- if considered clinically safe and prudent -- might reveal abnormalities, such as misalignments of the vertebrae or nerve root compression not evident in the normal anatomical position (i.e. with the neck straight and unstressed).

Any more specific context?

Cervical spinal column - documented only as relevant (for this case).

Explanation:
I'm sure, Micknick is right:

MRT offers so much information, some of which might not be relevant for this case.

The arteries, the nervous system, any abnormalities in the spinal structure ... you know, what the case is about, maybe you can replace the word appropriately.
