German to English translations [Non-PRO]
Medical
German term or phrase: Affine
Medical research - people divided into 2 groups:

Tabletten-Verwenderinnen and
Tabletten-Affine

Seems to be those who do not / refuse to take tablets. Would be very grateful if someone could confirm this, since I cannot find it anywhere.
Richard Foulkes
English translation:Affine
Explanation:
No refusal but it is true that they don't take the drugs. They normally receive placebos (so they think they took the medicine) and later on the researchers can find out if the drug really worked by comparing the results of those two groups.

By the way affin is affine in English (Affinität=affinity)

Thanks for your explanation. It was the most applicable of those submitted in this case. My request may have been slightly misleading in that it wasn't medical research in the sense of tests, but more judging people's attitude towards medications. In this case, the term "Affine" was later defined in the text as people who did not take tablets if they could avoid doing so, but weren't against doing so in principle. Perhaps a strange use of the term in German.

Many thanks again,

Richard.

Explanation:
'Affine' = strongly drawn to it. I could not find it in my dictionary either, but the German Word 'Affinitaet' describes objects that are strongly drawn to each other.

That would mean something very different than you suggested.

Explanation:
The first term would indicate drug / pills users (Tabletten-Verwenderinnen)and the second the people with a predisposition / tendency / inclination (Affinitäit) to drug / pills use.

See:
