Medical
German term or phrase: Sinterung
I know this is called sintering in engineering, chemistry, etc. but not sure whether it is in medicine too: "Es kommt zu einer Sinterung infolge von Flüssigkeitsverlust" (talking about degenerative disc disease).

sintering
Explanation:
The mechanical process is descirbed on several web pages and in Duden's Universal Woerterbuch. The only specific medical reference I can find is to model construction. I find it very easy, and painful, to imagine the process occuring in an unhealthy spine. The combination of a powder (bone fragments resutling from grinding?), heat and dryness are the factors involved, irregardless of the field.
Best of luck!
