Not even the Roche Lexikon Medizin has got this one! But it seems to be describing something which takes place after a medical procedure. Could it be recuperation? A related word is "Einheilphase", so it seems like a phase where the patient might spend time recovering from the operation or whatever.

Einheilung is used rather strangely in this sentence: "Die Einheilung erfolgte gedeckt". Does this mean that the recuperation or whatever took place under cover, ie indoors? I really don't get that. In this case, the procedure which the "Einheilung" follows is the insertion of dental implants. Heilung I know, of course, but am having a little trouble with its "ein"-prefixed cousin!

body takes the foreign body. Thus I looked it up and in Muret-Sanders it says: med. Einheilung eines Transplantates--take, vollstaendige Einheilung-complete take;
under "gedeckt" I found the following
additional words besides "covered":
under protection, protected, with support, in congruity, etc.

Explanation:
The implant would need time to settle properly - "heal into" the gum, as it were. I am afraid I cannot provide the exact English term, if there is one, but I hope this helps.

"gedeckt" probably means that implant and gum were protected to provide optimum conditions for the healing process (Einheilung).

Explanation:
Einheilung is, I think, just one of those cases where German as a langage is ruthlessly precise - much more so than English. Did an AltaVista search for Einheilung and found that in all the contexts concerned, we would just say "healing" in English (see First URL which has both terms in a bibliography).
As regards "gedeckt", see 2nd URL, which explains what's going on - site is either covered by gum tissue, or exposed.

healing/maturation


Explanation:
I agree with the previous two answers that this must be healing after an implant, such as a dental implant, rather than recuperation.

For dental implants as such, I have come across "tissue maturation" for the healing process that occurs after the implant itself is placed. "Healing cap" is the English word for "Einheilkappe", used to cover the implant while this maturation takes place.

Can't add anything new to the "gedeckt" part, I'm afraid.
