German to English translations [PRO] Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals / clinical trials
German term or phrase:Verum der Studienmedikation
comes up several time in a letter describing changes made to a clinical trial, e.g. die Bandlung erfolgt ausschliesslich mit dem Verum der Studienmedikation / jeder Studienpatient wird mit dem entsprechend gekennzeichnete Verum der Studienmedikation.
In my opinion, your added sentence says that the previously prescribed commercially available medication/drug is (being) replaced by/with a medication containing the active ingredient/substance of the study drug.
which I should have given with my original question. This leads me to believe that my assumption is correct, i.e. the commercially-available drug is being replaced by a medication consisting solely of the drug substance - have you ever heard of instances of this?
Thanks to Andrea and Steffen. I was reticent to provide additional information for reasons of confidentiality. However, there is indeed more to the text. I'll summarize "erfolgt ein Austausch der bisher verordnete Handelsware...durch die Verum der Studienmedikation"
Regarding your question, Jonathan, that "perhaps they are implying that the established medication itself is not being given, but rather its active drug substance only??" - I believe this is reading too much into it. By contrast, I think that this is a classic case of "doppelt gemoppelt" since a "Studienmedikation" is a "Verum" by definition, as opposed to a placebo.
