German to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Music / Play rights
German term or phrase:Zweit- und Weiterverwertung
"xxx setzt sich für die Zweit- und Weiterverwertung der Musikkompositionen ein…Als Musikverlag vertritt xxx die Autoreninteressen gegenüber Auftraggebern und Sendern."
In this previous Kudoz question, the accepted answer was ‘second use’: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1374993
and here, the proposed translation is ‘second utilization’ http://tinyurl.com/5cashq
I’m not sure that ‘use/usage/utilisation’ works well with music, though. Maybe something with ‘repeat play’? And what about ‘Weiterverwertung’? Thanks in advance. AJS
Many thanks to all contributors. I have gone with “secondary and tertiary exploitation” as there were 19 hits for this phrase, half of them to do with broadcasting/performing rights. “Secondary and continued exploitation”, on the other hand, could not be found. “Continued exploitation” on its own merely led to feminist tracts. a) Are we definitely talking about recorded music? b) There's a big difference between repeat playing (organisation A pays each time they play the piece) and re-use (where org. A pays to use it and org. B pays to use it in a different context) - my hunch
