German to English translations [PRO]
German term or phrase: außer
The following appears in the "Special Agreements" section of an Internship Agreement. I'm confused by the last sentence and think it's missing something or I'm misreading it:

"Die Ausbildung wird entsprechend der vorläufigen Ausbildungsordnung für das Praktikum der Fachoberschule für Technik im Rahmen unserer betrieblichen Möglichkeiten durchgeführt. [OK, so far so good.] Verfahren wird lt. dem Vertrag beiliegenden Plan [still OK], außer Punkt 2.23 = Qualitätskontrolle im Labor, Messen und Prüfen in der Fertigung wird jedoch durchgeführt" [come again?].
Cami Townsend
English translation:one "außer2 is maybe enough
Explanation:
The part between the two commas is possibly OK as it is because "Qualitätskontrolle im Labor" could be the title/name of point 2.23. - The "Messen und Prüfen in der Fertigung" might be another type of quality control measure that will indeed be carried out during the practical training.

This is how I had started to look at it, too, but I felt I needed more input.

you're right

Explanation:
Looks to me like there's one instance of "durchgeführt" missing right after Labor. That would make it:
Qualitätskontrolle im Labor wird nicht durchgeführt, Messen und Prüfen in der Fertigung werden jedoch durchgeführt.

Any chance you might be able to contact the client to have them correct the sentence?

one "außer" is maybe enough

Explanation:
Sorry I didn't hit the shift key hard enough, it should of course be "außer" not "außer2.

you sure ?

Explanation:
I'd say it means

...except point 2.23, i.e quality testing in laboratories. Measuring and testing are effected during the finishing though.

I'm a little puzzled about the meaning of the beginning of the first sentence (before "ausser") :o)

Explanation:
This is just to say that I'm sure Dan is right.

I just couldn't see the difficulty when I first read the problem sentence.

(I'm not a native German speaker, but my mother tongue is Danish, which is closer to German than English is.)

Explanation:
Personally, I agree with uel. It looks to me like an example of the German predilection for stringing together a number of phrases that use the same verb with only a single common verb at the end, but in this case it got a bit out of hand.

"durchgeführt" missing

Explanation:
I perfectly agree with uel.
The German sentence as it is is wrong.
But you all got the right meaning.
