German term or phrase: Filterkerze/Filterkartusche
The text is about water filter systems used in coffee machines and two of the products are called Filterkerze and Filterkartusche. The problem I have is that I want to translate both of these as filter 'cartridge'. However, they are different products and so I feel I should be giving them different names so they can be distinguished from one another. Any ideas?

English translation:filter candle / filter cartridge
Explanation:
Ernst gives
Filterkerze f (Ionenaustauscher) / candle

Based on that, I ran a search on "candle + water + filter" and found quite a few hits. See the following:

A search on "cartridge +water +filter" yielded the following results (among many):

it is "cartridge"

Explanation:
Because I could not find anything else
for it in various dictionaries, I looked
in the Internet. I found a site, which
is translated into German/English/French
where one can buy "Filterkerzen." It is
"cartouche" in French and "cartridge"
in English.

Filterkartusche" = "filter cartridge" - "Filterkerze" = "filter candle"

Explanation:
Uel is right, as usual, "filter candle" it the right translation for "Filterkerze". It is the name used for a filter element made from more or less porous ceramic material. They look a little like a tapered candle and are inserted in a "holder". This type of filter can even stop E. Coli. Here is more information:

http://www.glassfilter.com/catalog/filtercandle.html

http://www.discountgrains.com/info2.html

http://www.riley.com.au/waterfilters.htm

You can see at the Australian site that "filter candles" are often also called "filter cartridges" but for your text, where you need two names, "filter candle" is 100% correct.

"Filterkartusche" = "filter cartridge"
