German term or phrase: aufbrechen an/verdichten an
"Für das In-/Exkassosystem muß ein Datenpool zur Verfügung gestellt werden, der je nach Anforderungen an diese Schnittstelle aufgebrochen oder verdichtet werden kann."

I realize that "verdichten" can refer to data compression, but I'm not sure about the use of "aufbrechen" or the preposition "an" here.

English translation:compressed/
Explanation:
. . . which, depending on the strain on this interface, can be opened or compressed.

In this case, "an" has nothing to do with the verb itself. Your missing "an" refers to the interface (the strain on it).

Good luck!

Explanation:
I think 'opened' is to feeble.
'Aufbrechen' means literally 'break up', which is to violent for this context. As opposed to compressed I think 'expanded' is the right one rather than 'split up', 'divided' or similar.
