Facts about Germany/Tatsachen ueber Deutschland is published by the German Government, you can obtain it from the G. Embassy. Can't find the right info for you in www.bundesrepublik.de in English, so please let me quote from the book: If these (private) schools are alternative to public schools, they are subject to state approval. Alternative schools have no authority to administer examinations and issue report cards and certificates pursuant to the provisions in effect for public schools until they have been awarded state recognition by the educational authorities of the states.
