I am confused now - is it FunktionSchar (i.e. it should then be Funktionsschar!) or Funktionscharacter / symbol as the second answer suggests.

In the context of partial differential equations - functional cluster would be a possibility.

And in German you would also find Funktionsschar with Differentialgleichungen.

neutral  Achim Strijewski, Ph.D.: The word is definitely "Funktionsschar". It is a very common word in mathematics and applies to all kinds of calculus funtions.

probably more context would make it clear but I think that "char" stands here for a type of variable, namely "character"
if that's correct this would be a one-word function symbol, e.g. "f" or "g" as is commonly used in mathematics
