Funny in English just like komisch in German has two meanings: amusing and strange. In your context it is apparently the second meaning that' s being realized.
If you don' t like the word funny as it may have a double meaning, you might say
"weird" but weird is a bit stronger than just funny. You choose it for yourself as you know the context.
