German term or phrase: Punktknäufe, Parierstangen
Any antiques freaks out there? This part of the text (relating to a Meissen pot) talks about the sword mark on the jug: "Unterglasurblaue Schwertermarke mit Punktknäufen an der Unterschale, Schwertermarke mit großen Parierstangen unter dem Topf..." I know that "Knäufe" means "pommel" - but "Punktknäufe"..? I know that "pairieren" is "to parry", but what are the "Parierstangen"?? Any help appreciated!

This is describing the vesion of the Meissen trademark found on the antiqu (of crucial importance, as the age of the piece can be determined that way). Punktknäufe, I believe, refers to the version used in the 1760's with dots at the base of each sable hilt. Parierstange, I believe is parrying foil, but I would doublecheck that at one of the two links below. The first one, espaecially, will show you what you're writing about. HTH, Will
