German term or phrase: godronniert
A Meissen pot on an "aufgestelltem, godronniertem und vergoldetem Standring." Unfortunately, the customer couldn't provide me with a picture...
Heather
English translation:Supplement to my last answer
Explanation:
I just found the answer in Webster's unabridged. Based on Faberge's explanation of gadronniert, this is definitely the "official" word: gadroon: an elaborately carved or indented convex moulding,2. decorative series of curved, inverted flutings or of convex and concave flutings, as on a silversmith's work (gadrooned).

Explanation:
Godronnieren = Fachsprachlich bei Gold- und Silberschmiedearbeiten: einen Gegenstand mit einer Kehlung bzw. Zierleiste versehen, häufig ein Ornament aus konvexen Kurven oder Bögen. (Source: http://www.faberge.de/carl/glossar.htm). As elegant as the German description is, I would suggest using such an inelegant solution as "decoratively etched/carved" in this context. Hope this helps, Will

scallop, scallopped edge

Explanation:
according to Duden, Fremdwörterbuch, godronnieren = ausschweifen, fälteln, so scallopped edge might fit. HTH!
