German term or phrase: überkommunal
"Die Region Lombardei hat den Bergverband Alta Valtellina (überkommunaler Verband der Gemeindeverwaltungen des Gebietes) mit der Koordination des Projektes Alps Mobility beauftragt."

I’m brain-dead today -- and I can’t even find "überkommunal" in other dictionaries (incl. the better online ones).

Any ideas? (And NOT "Over-communal" please! )

Thanks to all,
Beth

inter-municipal
Explanation:
in fact, it's rather a misconception to think - as the author of the German article says - that the "Comunità Montana" (Bergverband) is "over-communal"; rather, it's an association "between" Municipalities.

Thank you Kim and Francesco!

You gave me the validation I needed to be sure I was thinking in the right direction.

If it were up to me, you’d both get points!

regional

Explanation:
"(regional association of the communal administrations of the area) ..."

"inter-communal" is a difficult way of saying "regional".

No, Alexander...

Explanation:
if you say "regional" in an Italian context, it takes a quite different meaning. In Italy "Regions" (Regioni) is the official name of semi-autonomous entities, more or less comparable to the German "Laender"; in an Italian context the word "regional" should only be used in connection with the "Regioni", otherwise musunderstandings are bound to happen.
