German to English translations [Non-PRO]
German term or phrase: Zum Andineken Van (or Andeneken Uan)
My Grandfather wrote this at the bottom of a photograph of himself, then signed his name.
Lori McCotter
English translation:as a memento of
Explanation:
I think this should be 'zum Andenken von', which is 'as a reminder / memento of'. Which would make sense in your context.

Don't know if its a dialect, a misspelling, or just idiosyncratic handwriting!

Hope it helps anyway!

Thank you very much for your help. I am trying to learn more about my Grandfather, who died when my Mother was six years old. I do not know the German language, and your answer was helpful. Have a good day!

In memory of

Explanation:
Text most probably reads: zum Andenken an (+ name) - 'in memory of'

Enter 'zum andenken an (in English)' at e.g. www.google.com for several hits and references.

Hope this helps.
