German to English translations [PRO]
German term or phrase: unverblindet
'eine nichtplacebokontrollierte, unverblindete Studie'
What kind of medical research study is this?
Julie Neill

Local time: 11:32
English translation:open
Explanation:
open [study]

open (as contrasted with single blind, double blind and triple blind): Pertaining to a clinical trial or other experiment in which both the subjects and the persons administering the tests are aware of which treatment is administered to which subject)
(Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary, ISBN 0-7216-2859-1)

AltaVista (English): The number of Web pages that contain your search terms: unblind study 1 • nonblind study 7 • non(-)blind study 8 • non(-)blinded study 49 • open study 3271.

HTH, in case you have trouble deciding. You might want to check further on Google, with a little more effort.

BTW, the term _ unverblindet_ doesn’t appear in my 2 medical and 1 biological German-English dictionaries.

All the best, Tom

This was a difficult choice as there were plenty of references for 'non-blind' on the Internet too. I can only conclude that it doesn't matter too much which I pick.
In the end, your Dorland definition convinced me. Thanks!

non-blinded study

Explanation:
seems to be more common (140 hits, as against 27). Blinded or double-blinded studies involve the control of one or more variables (the "blinds"), but this seems to be a random study based more on clinical practice (it isn't that easy - or that legal - to impose scientific variables on living patients). Considering this study doesn't even have a placebo group, it would be a "real life" situation as against clinical phase III studies (clinical assays on human patients, for which you need approval and a sound phase I - tissue - and phase II - lab animals - background).
