German to English translations [PRO]
German term or phrase: Deftigen
It is at the end of a recipe for layered salad. The full context is 'Passt zu allem Deftigen, kann auch nur mit Weißbrot serviert werden.' Any help would be much apprecited. Cheers.

English translation:any good food
Explanation:
An ideal accompaniment to any good food ... / any hearty dishes ...

The dictionary has 'solid' for deftig - but I'm not sure solid is a good epithet to apply to food.

agree  Sharon Sarah Schmitz: "Hearty dishes" gets my vote, as "herzhafte Mahlzeit" is the same as "deftige Mahlzeit".

agree  Thijs van Dorssen: Agree with Sharon. Deftige Mahlzeit = good plain cooking, nothing fancy. Like Saumagen, or Grünkohl mit Wurst.
