Studioaufnahmen vor **freigestelltem** Hintergrund (with a background) of the client's choosing Explanation: 'freigestellt' can also mean '(dem Kunden) freigestellt'; in other words it's up to the customer to choose the background. |

The asker has declined this answer Comment: Gee, I wish there was still the option to add a comment (where did that go?). I should have stated that I already considered this option. The manufacturer is putting these brochures together and so there is no "client" as such. If anything the *photographer* can choose the background. Thing is, this phrase is used as a compositional description on the photographer's websites. E.g. "bei freigestelltem, durchleuchtetem Hintergrund..." etc. (see http://vivisimo.com/search?query=freigestelltem+Hintergrund&v%3Asources=Web) So I'm NOT really declining your answer -- I too, think it's at least in part what is meant. But there is a "Fachausdruck" nuance to it too. I hope this makes sense and I hope this is accepted by the site as a Comment/Clarification. Mea culpa! And thanks. BJ |
background of choice Explanation: would be the proper wording, but Sandi got the right idea, so you might as well give him the points |

The asker has declined this answer Comment: Thanks for the link to MediaLine (!), because it helped put me on the track I was looking for: Freistellen n (Freistellung f) ***Alleinstellung***1., 2. Alleinstellung f (advertising) ***1. (Position) island position, solus position A preferred position of an advertisement in a newwspaper or a magazine being completelv surrounded by either editorial matter or margin. 2. (Vorgang) island positioning, solus positioning 3. (radio/television) isolation mehr (Link: http://en.mimi.hu/marketingweb/island_position.html) To make a long story short, I know this client and how they portray their product (motorcycles) and I was looking for an add'l nuance that said "standing alone" = "island-positioned studio shots in front of the background of choice" So thanks to you I've got all bases covered now! Thanks again for all your insights and trouble. BJ PS see also: http://vivisimo.com/search?query=island+position%2C+solus+position%2Bphotography&v%3Aproject=vivisimo-com&v%3Asources=Web |
crop out / cut out Explanation: Freistellung is a technical term in graphical arts / Pphotography. Quite recently there was a similar Kudoz question: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/860816 (here another suggestion was graded useful by the asker, but IMO still the crop-out or cut-out phrase is used in this context). And pls. check google hits: http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=crop out photograph&meta... |

masked images Explanation: This is when you isolate the main image so that you have a "clear" background layer (and can therefore put it in front of any background you choose.) i.e. "masked studio shots" Reference: http://www.maskedflowerimages.com/licenceagreement.html#mask... |
