German to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / Goethe quote
German term or phrase:vom Nützlichen durchs Wahre zum Schönen
Hello all! Does anyone have an "official" translation for this Goethe quote?
Vom Nützlichen durchs Wahre zum Schönen
(If not, I'll just translate it myself, so please feel free to take a crack at it - it's for a cosmetics company).
It's from their packaging - so it's a kind of slogan/motto/nice-sounding quote that (judging from the rest of their materials) is designed to make you believe that they are good and pure and have nothing whatsoever to do with a pharmaceutical conglomeration...
This is PR? If so, perhaps a completely different quote/phrase would be preferable. Different strokes different folks, after all - and sad to say it, but just how many people in the English-speaking world have even heard of Goethe?
This is a quote from Goethe's "Wilhelm Meisters Wanderjahre," Book I, chapter 6. I don't know the official translation. I would probably translate it as follows:
"From the useful through the true to beauty" or "From beneficial to beauty by means of the true" (the 2. one is a translation more oriented towards cosmetics ?)
