All the dictionaries give "burp", "belch" etc as well as "strike". Could this mean "stumble across" here?

It's from the blurb for a sci-fi/fantasy book about crop circles.

"Rätselhafte Kornkreise erwachen zum Leben und die Gesetze der Natur spielen verrückt.
