Science
German term or phrase: hefanol
In a 1909 experiment report. Here is a rough draft of the surrounding paragraph, followed by the German sentence with the magic word "hefanol"!
"Furthermore, we observe that other objects (such as finely powdered pea seeds and wheatgerm) cannot oxidise the oxalic acid and, in fact, even cause a reduction in the release of carbon dioxide. The respiration of pea seeds and wheatgerm constitutes a different chemical process to that of wheat seeds. As an example, the extracts of zymin and hefanol (??????) -- as well as the substances obtained from these through the use of alcohol (presumably the sugar phosphoric acids) -- provide the best stimulation of the energy of wheat seed respiration in sour reactions. In contrast, respiration of the pea seeds and wheatgerm is best stimulated under neutral and weak alkaline reactions of these extracts."
(Problem sentence): "So, z.B. stimulieren die Extracte von Zymin und Hefanol, sowie die aus diesen durch Alkohol ausgefällten Stoffe, vermutlich die Zuckerphosphorsäure, die Energie der Atmung der Weizensamen am besten bei saurer Reaktion...."

English translation:yeast alcohol
Explanation:
I never heard about Hefanol, but since we are in plant processes it could be a yeast alcohol (HefenalKohol).

Another possibility could be a typo error : hexanol would fit best.

Hope this helps

Enzyme and hefanol

Explanation:
"Zymin" is an enzyme and hefanol is untranslatable. These are the compounds that you'll get after the chemical reaction with wheat seeds.

Hefanol is a sort of alcohol, but with a different moleculair structure.

Good luck
