German to English translations [PRO] Sports / Fitness / Recreation
German term or phrase:internationale Vergleiche
Context is description of the sporting facilities offered by a German town. Gern vergeben die bundesdeutschen Sportverbände auch die Ausrichtung internationale Vergleiche an die Stadt.
Assume this must mean "international competitions" but have not come across Vergleich used in this way before. Can anyone confirm?
Explanation: I am wondering whether grammatically the sentence is possibly not 100% and whether what is intended is to say that the German sporting associations are comparing this town with other towns worldwide and saying that it is now "on a par internationally" i.e. is comparable with other towns worldwide from a sporting point of view and to be their equal/on a level. That at least is how I read it....hope that helps.....even if it's not the preferred answer, it at least gives you a different viewpoint :)

Asker: Thanks for that Sheila. I have consulted a couple of native speaker colleagues in the meantime and they confirm that the Vergleiche refers to competitions, or to be more precise, friendly matches.
