German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase:Schlüsselträger
For the most part, the article that I'm translating is a PR piece for a software program that allows a bank and its customers to send encrypted messages to each other over email. The word "Schlüsselträger" occurs at the end of the document under a "technical details" section. "Mittelfristig kommen SmartCards als Schlüsselträger zum Einsatz."
Explanation: What Dierk says is correct but maybe the first time it comes up one could use the longer more explanatory phrase. The key is so long and complex that nobody could remember it let alone type it, so normally today in an office they are stored on disks etc which are then stored in safes or removed from the premises. What these folks want to do is make the system mobile by storing the key on a smart card.
