German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: nachwachsend
Relating to car upholstery:
Polsterauflage aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffen (z.B.Gummihaar) oder Mehrzonenschaum
Chandu Kale
English translation:... made from regenerative raw materials ...
Explanation:

The translations for nachwachsend could be regenerative or renewable.

My Degering/Wessels Wörterbuch Umwelt, NODE and Duden all seem to treat these terms as synonyms or at least near synonyms.

UEL looked these definitions up in Pons, Fachwörterbuch Umwelt:
regenerate = replace by new growth;
regenerative = which allows new growth to replace damaged tissue = regenerativ
regenerative properties = ability of something, such as an ecosystem, to recover from pollution = Regenerationsvermögen

renew = make s.th. new again
renewable = (energy from the sun, wind, waves, tides, and geothermal energy or energy froim buring waste, none of which use up fossil fuel reserves = rückführbar, erneuerbar

I have found two other sources on the right and left hands of God: The Department of Energy (DOE): http://www.eren.doe.gov/wind/ - and The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/actions/cleanenergy/index.h... -

Something like wind is apparently renewable.

Something that grows again is apparently regenerative.

sustainable

Explanation:
nachwachsend means that a raw material is not irresponsibly 'farmed' without ensuring replacement. eg. teak trees which are farmed and only used as new trees begin to grow to replace them rather than just chopping them down in their natural habitat. I thing the best ecological term is 'sustainable', but I stand to be corrected/educated!
