German term or phrase: sichern
Text about repairing a measuring device (context: workstation for brake discs) "Schalten Sie die Meßeinrichtung zum Werkzeugwechsel aus und sichern Sie die Anlage." sichern here seems to have some sort of electrical context, rather than to secure the equipment... Any ideas?

English translation:perform lock-out/tag-out procedure
Explanation:
Hallo Nick,

You might also use "secure" or "lock" the system or you could write log-out/tag-out the equipment. It means that the equipment is turned off, power supply is cut off and locked by the means of a special device so nobody can restore the power supply inadvertently. This is a common security measure when working with high currents.

Cheers
Claudia
