German term or phrase: Rübenerde
About beet-sugar production in Great Britain:

Die Energiekosten sind aufgrund des hohen Energieverkaufs von zwei Fabriken an das öffentliche Netz dank der in die Kraft-Wärme-Kopplung vorgenommenen Investitionen stark zurückgegangen. Die Abgabe für die Entsorgung der Rübenerde konnte nach Verhandlungen mit der Regierung vermieden werden.

What I need is the _correct_technical_term in English for the word Rübenerde

English translation:Soil
Explanation:
"After negociations with the government the fees for disposal of the soil [removed during the cleaning process] could be avoided"
This one of these wierd german concepts that the waste material cleaned from the beet is somehow connected to the beet itself. There isnt a "technical term" for this in english, you would just use the generic term for "muck" "dirt" or whatever, which is "soil". You could use earth which is the direct translation and used in both langauges both for the planet and the muddy stuff, but in the context of growing things in fertile material "soil" is better.

Sorry this took so long. I got busy then forgot. Dont know what I finally used, but now would lean to something like "dispensation of fees for disposal of the waste soil removed from the beets was negotiated with the gov."
