cylinder switch, but with a caveat
Explanation:
A search on "cylinder switch" indicates that this particular term is used primarily in conjunction with hard drives (synonymous with track switch).

Searching on Zylinderschalter, I noticed that pneumatics showed up frequently in the same context. (Searches on “cylinder switch” + “bore gage” or + MAC didn’t yield anything that seemed to fit into your overall context).

A search on “cylinder switch” + pneumatics yielded mostly English web pages from German companies that do include the term cylinder switch. The “abledata” website was the only one that does not appear to have been translated from German.

"The hoses meet in the middle of the Navigator in the form of a star. Each line is assigned to a pneumatic cylinder with a magnet valve and cylinder switch"
http://app10.bosch.de/invest/en/i982/eb27.htm#s0

www.abledata.com/text2/icg_spin.htm

So I'm not sure how reliable this is - but maybe it'll help. Good luck!

Thanks very much - nobody seemed really sure, but drives was the right direction. I found a picture of the darned thing at the website of Festo AG & Co. Cylinder switch is the term they use.
Thanks again to everyone for your help.

I cant help trying - away from my computer and all dictionaries.
It could of course also mean: cylindrical switch but that's not so probable, if I may guess.

Explanation:
In the ablsence of any more context, all I can suggest is the obvious.

see the ref for the use of the term in an automotive context (good glossary, by the way)
