Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: Ausfädelung (HVAC/pipework)
It's an item in a list, so no context to speak of other than the general subject field, which is HVAC. Asked the client by e-mail and was told "Eine Ausfädelung ermöglicht in der Heizungs- und in der Sanitärtechnik die Verzweigung einer Leitung in weitere Leitungen auf unterschiedlichen Höhen." From another entry, "Ausfädelungs-DN", it seems an Ausfädelung can have a nominal diameter, so I assume it to be a fitting rather than a technique. So, what do you call a pipe fitting that splits a branch into two pipes at different levels.

English translation:branching, Y, T
Explanation:
it would be some kind of branching fitting, depending on shape a Y, a T orjust a simple nozzle on a straight piece of pipe. Try some piping manufacturers, such a sGeorge Fisher for more information.

Thanks, Uta. An ex-plumber who is now a technical translator (it takes all sorts!) got in touch and said the same. "Branching" it is. It's not a diverter; that would have been one of the many sorts of Umstellung in the terminology used by my client.

diverter (valve)

Explanation:
In the URL below and many other AltaVista hits, "diverter (valve)" is the valve that redirects water, for example, from tub filling to the shower head. They would have nominal diameters. Hope this helps. Dan
