tip relief Explanation: Today, different methods to reduce the vibrations generated by a gear pair are known: Profile corrections (tip relief) to reduce the contact shock, optimisation of the profile and overlap ratio, increasing the tooth height, minimising the variation of the tooth stiffness over the path of contact. These methods are well known and different calculation programs exist to check and verify them. There is a set of parameters (the module, helix and pressure angle, addendum modification and reference profile), which can be changed in certain limits to achieve an optimum. But to find the optimum with conventional calculation programs is very time-consuming because of the large number of possible combinations.
