German term or phrase: Leichtmetallschmierräder

forged alloy wheels with single wheel nuts
Explanation:
My Schmidt-Pons must be older than uel's because "Leichtmetallschmierrad" wasn't listed, only "Leichtmetallschmiederad", with the same info that uel mentioned.

The following all came up with zero Google (German) and also zero AltaVista (German) hits:

Leichtmetallschmierrad
Leichtmetallschmierräder
Schmierrad
Schmierräder

But anyway, when I was a teenager (yes, the automobile had already been invented then!), we called such things "forged alloy wheels with single or knock-off or single knock-off wheel nuts".

"Knock-off" means the nut has two 180 degree opposed lugs that are hit with a hammer to lock on and remove, as in this photo:

http://www.arh.ee/jaguar/etype.htm

Please do not use "knock-off" unless you can see or know that it is so. With some such wheels, the nut is a roughly 2-inch hex-nut as in the last photo on this page:

http://www.xclusivauto.com/hre.html

I would not use the word aluminum (aluminium) because from your context we do not know if they are pure aluminum, normally not.

There are still over 4000 Google (English) hits for:

+wheel +"knock-off"

in the year 2000. If the word +forged is added we get 160 hits.

Using the same queries under AltaVista (English), because AltaVista pays better attention to the Boolean symbols,

+wheel +"knock-off" drops down to 1900 hits and

+wheel +"knock-off" +forged

comes in at 60 so-la-la hits.

Thank you so very much, Uel and Dan especially. I gave Dan this one because I liked the _forged_ in the translation I'll be using. In case anyone cares, the interior is a stylish combination of "Leder von schnellen Gazellen (Oh gimme a break!) und Aluminium." I want one for Christmas, but different upholstery! (My wife would have a fit.)
BTW the typo was the customer's not mine. Caused us all some extra work, expecially you, Uel. Thanks loads again to all! PS --- Johanna -- thanks! I've been swamped. Will reply soon to your note. :)))

centrally mounted

Explanation:
I found the URl below -it refers to an apparently patented ZV1=Zentralverschluss, meaning the wheel is mounted using only one nut.
Hope this helps. J.

central-locking forged light-alloy wheels

Explanation:
Just to confirm previous answers, again from Wyhlidal:
Leichtmetall-Schmiederad = forged light-alloy wheel, forged alloy wheel
(no listing for Schmierrad)
Zentralverschlußrad = central-locking wheel
