Buffer tank
Explanation:
In then projects I have taken care of, the Zwischenbehaelter is normally a buffer tank or more general buffer storage. Of course, you can opt for the more literal rendering intermediate (storage) tank, which is in essence a buffer tank.

Good luck!

I used to take the intermediate tank, but I dislike this expression so I decided to ask others and here is my answer. I like the "buffer tank" a lot more. I will use it from now on.
tnx a lot - Geri

intermediate reservoir

Explanation:
The entry in Ernst is:
Zwischenbehälter m, -gefäß n (Strangguß) / pony ladle, tundish

If it's less specific intermediate reservoir or container would do.
