German term or phrase: Anbau/Tüllengehäuse
This is from an assembly parts list:
Hartingsteckverbindung für 24V DC, 40-pol. (Bedienpult)
1 St. Anbaugehäuse mit Kappe, 40pol.
1 St. Tüllengehäuse, 40pol., seitl. Kabelausgang
1 St. Steckereinsatz, 40pol. für Crimpkontakte
1 St. Steckdoseneinsatz, 40pol., für Crimpkontakte
40 St. Crimpstift 0.75mm2
40 St. Crimpbuchse 0,75mm2
4 Sperrbolzen zur Codierung

I tried to look this up on Harting's web site, and got more confused than I was beforehand. For Anbaugehäuse, they have drawings marked "housings, bulkhead mounting," and for Tüllengehäuse, the drawings are labeled "hoods, top-entry" (or in some cases side-entry). I only have the part numbers, but not the order numbers, which is what the web site asks for. When I entered the part number for the hood above, a drawing appeared marked "hoods top-entry", but according to the assembly parts list, the cable exits on the side.
Also, the web site lists female contact for Crimpstift and for Crimpbuchse, which I think must be a mistake.
If anyone has enough electrical knowledge to sort these terms out in general (without specific company designations)and give me the English equivalents, I would greatly appreciate the help! TIA, Beth.

Explanation:
uels' suggestions are more or less OK. here are some other possibilities:

Anbaugehäuse mit Kappe, 40pol. = bulkhead-mount or panel-mount (connector) housing (or hood) ['bulkhead' has a slightly military f;avour]
Tüllengehäuse = (most likely) cable-end connector hood (or housing) [as opposed tp panel-mount]
Steckereinsatz = copnnector body
Crimpkontakte = crimp contacts
Crimpstift = crimp pin [male]
Crimpbuchse = crimp socket [female]
Sperrbolzen = keying pins
Codierung = keying

Thanks to everyone who offered help on this one. I was really stuck. Over the weekend I managed to get my hands on an electronics supplier catalog (Newark Electronics) and was able to look most of this up; even found pictures of these things. For Anbaugehäuse, panel-mount housing was right on, and Tuellengehäuse was listed as connector hood. For the others, I found male and female insert. For the crimp contacts, I decided to use crimp pin and crimp socket. Thanks again to all of you for your help!

Attachment / Socket housing

Explanation:
The expression "Anbau/Tüllengehäuse" appears to be a heading for instructions to attach the socket housing

Explanation:
This is not much of an answer, but a Tuelle, normally called Kabeltuelle, is support sleeve. Siemens Fachwb fuer Industrielle Elekrotechnik offers: Tuelle: support sleeve, sleeve, (Leitungseinfuehrung) bushing, grommet and Tuellenmutter: grommet nut. Anbaugehaeuse: would probably be an enclosure (shroud) which is mounted on a small unit/device. Crimp, here is what Siemens has to offer,
Crimpamboss: crimp anvil
Crimpanschluss: crimp termination (IEC 603-1), crimp snap-on connection, crimp connection
Crimpanschluss (Verbinder) crimp snap-on connector
Crimphuelse: crimp barrel
Crimpkammer: retainer chamber
Crimpkontakt: crimp contact, crimp snap-in contact
Crimp-Pruefbohrung: crimp inspection hole,
Crimpstempel: crimp indentor
Crimpverbindung: crimped connection, crimp connection, crimp
Crimpwerkzeug: crimping tool
Crimpzange: crimping tool

I know this is not much help, but ...
Good luck!

equipment outlet, appliance plug unit

Explanation:
The website below explains in detail.
Picture for example the power cord which plugs into the back of your computer. On the sheetmetal box there is a metal part, the Anbaugehäuse and the electrical conncector, the Steckdoseneinsatz with crimp connectors . On the cable end (if you build the cord yourself) there is the molded plug, in this case the Tüllengehäuse, and inside of it the electrical part, the Steckereinsatz with crimp connectors.

a bit more

Explanation:
'Steckereinsatz can als be 'connector insert' or just 'insert' [both of these are more 'official' than 'connector body']

more afterthoughts

Explanation:
1. 'Kappe' could be a number of things, but it's probably 'cover'.

2. 'Shell' is also used instead of 'hood' or 'housing', especially for 'round' (cylindindrical) connectors.

In general, the terminology depends somewhat on the manufacturer.
