English translation:horizontal loop
Explanation:
'Erdregister' is a device used for harnessing geothermal energy. Compare the German language definition at the first URL quoted:
Erdregister bestehen aus horizontalen, bis in eine maximale Tiefe von 3m verlegten Rohrsysteme, die den Erdreich Waerme entziehen.
with the definition of 'horizontal loop' at the second URL, where there is also a helpful diagram:
Pipes are placed in trenches, in lengths that range from 100 to 400 feet'.
I am pretty sure that they refer to the same thing.
I am still working on 'Thermokanal', will post another message if I find anything.

Yep, the web is indeed dynamic -- the first ref seems to no longer exist, and the second one has been fully revised, with the elimination of the glossary. Still, your answers helped. For 'Erdregister' I settled on the more formal 'ground heat exchanger, and a Thermokanal turns out to be a variant of an Erdkanal that is used for tempering air that is passed through it (ie, warming cold air and cooling warm air). So, even though the refs are there, 3 points seems fair.

thermal sink

Explanation:
The use of a 'Thermokanal' in the sense you described is shown at www.ikz.de/art_1896/9618084.htm:
Die Zuluftfuehrung im Erdkanal, besonders hier im Grundwasser liegend, schafft in diesem sogenannten Thermokanal eine Vorklimatisierung und spart damit Klimatisierungsenergie. It would appear to have the reverse function from the 'Erdregister', whose job is to increase rather than reduce heat. This must be a thermal sink, a 'sink' being described in the 'American Heritage Dict.' as 'the part of a system from which heat ... is removed from the system'.
