horizontal loop Explanation: 'Erdregister' is a device used for harnessing geothermal energy. Compare the German language definition at the first URL quoted: Erdregister bestehen aus horizontalen, bis in eine maximale Tiefe von 3m verlegten Rohrsysteme, die den Erdreich Waerme entziehen. with the definition of 'horizontal loop' at the second URL, where there is also a helpful diagram: Pipes are placed in trenches, in lengths that range from 100 to 400 feet'. I am pretty sure that they refer to the same thing. I am still working on 'Thermokanal', will post another message if I find anything. thermal sink Explanation: The use of a 'Thermokanal' in the sense you described is shown at www.ikz.de/art_1896/9618084.htm: Die Zuluftfuehrung im Erdkanal, besonders hier im Grundwasser liegend, schafft in diesem sogenannten Thermokanal eine Vorklimatisierung und spart damit Klimatisierungsenergie. It would appear to have the reverse function from the 'Erdregister', whose job is to increase rather than reduce heat. This must be a thermal sink, a 'sink' being described in the 'American Heritage Dict.' as 'the part of a system from which heat ... is removed from the system'. |
